Shokan Ualikhanov Kokshetau State University was one of the first higher educational institutions in the Northern region of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

It was founded as a pedagogic institute in 1962, but at the end of the XX century it became a rapidly developing, big educational, scientific and cultural center of the region.
